VICTORIA FALLS WASTE MANAGEMENT TASKFORCE

TOGETHER MAKING A DIFFERENCE

The Victoria Falls Waste Management Taskforce, commonly known as “The Task Force”, is comprised of representatives from the Victoria Falls City Council (local government), Zimbabwe Republic Police, Pristine Victoria Falls Society and Environmental Management Agency (EMA). Formed in 2021, the taskforce is responsible for enforcing the law in relation to littering and waste management practices in Victoria Falls.

Every Wednesday, the taskforce is out and all over the city assessing the waste situation and prosecuting litter bugs and any such institution found with no waste management plan in place as required by the Environmental Management Act Chapter 20:27. Pristine Victoria Falls Society initiated a review of Victoria Falls City Council waste management by-laws as a means to revive law enforcement on waste management issues.

These by-laws are at an advanced stage for approval and will at this point allow officials from the city council to issue out fines to individuals and institutions responsible for littering or not upholding the provisions of the law in relation to waste management. Between December 2022 and May 2023, the taskforce issued out more than 236 tickets and 112 orders for various waste and environmental crimes.
